Behind the scenes of the Gréta resort

The guest arrives, parks, opens the room door, sits on the bed, breathes out, and says to himself: "It's good here."
And that's exactly how it should be. A hotel should function in a way that the guest doesn't have to think about anything. So that they can wake up in the morning, go down for breakfast, have a good scrambled eggs, fresh bread, and coffee, relax in the afternoon, and in the evening sit down in a restaurant or wellness center and feel that they are taken care of.

But behind this peace is a lot of work, people, decisions, planning, improvisation and, most importantly, honesty. The operation of Stodola Gréta and the entire Gréta Resort is not about one person or one department. It is the daily cooperation of people who have to function as one whole. And that is perhaps what is interesting to some – how such a hotel resort actually works.

Honest work as the basis of everything

There is no magic behind everything, as is the case in life. There is only honest work. Every day again. From morning to evening. Even on weekends, holidays, summer, winter. The hotel does not have a break. The resort is always alive.

I am extremely proud of our staff. Not because we are perfect, but because the people who work for us take their work seriously. And they take each other seriously. Gréta Resort is a family business and this principle is passed on to everyone – whether they are family members or people who have come to us from outside. We treat everyone as if they were our own family.

It's not a cliché. If it were a cliché, it wouldn't work. But when it becomes a reality, when people feel respect, trust, and responsibility, it carries over – all the way to the guest. And they feel it, even if they can't exactly name why.

There is no such thing as a "less important job" for us.

One of the things we value most is equality in work. There is no important or less important position for us. Every job is equal and every job is challenging in its own way. That is why we strive to ensure that our employees can function in multiple positions.

Not because they are overloaded, but because they understand what the other person is doing. When the receptionist knows what cleaning a room entails. When the cook understands the pressure at the reception during a busy weekend. When the maid knows what maintenance deals with. A natural respect for the work of others and functional feedback arise.

Cleaning that you only notice when it's missing

The comfort of the accommodation is ensured by a team of maids. Their work may be the least visible, but it is one of the most important. Majka has been a long-time employee and is in charge of managing the rooms, organizing the work of subordinate colleagues and temporary workers, and also overseeing cleaning at Stodol Gréta.

Together with Ivan and other colleagues, they handle not only routine cleaning, but also many details that guests often don't even realize - changing linen, purchasing it, storing it, quality control, accommodating guests with pets, caring for common areas, flowers, planting, watering, and the overall visual impression of the premises.

Maintenance as a silent pillar of the resort

Every hotel needs someone who knows it down to the last detail. In our case, it's Mirko. He's been part of the resort since its very beginning and knows all the technical parameters of the hotel. He knows where everything goes, why something works and why sometimes it doesn't.

They take care of the heat in the rooms, the functionality of the doors, lamps, heating, they deal with coffee machines, the wastewater treatment plant, pellet orders, inspections, fire protection, occupational safety. It is a job that the guest notices especially when something is not working - and that is why it is so important that everything works without problems most of the time.

Reception as a nerve center

The reception is the brain of the entire operation. The head of the reception is Martinka, who is in charge of the accommodation section, the organization, the running of the reception, and also the decoration of the restaurant and the hotel. She does it because she enjoys it, and it shows in the results.

Reception is not just about keys and ID cards. It is an endless cycle of emails, inquiries, offers, invoices, payments, personnel agenda, temporary workers, legislation and planning. Every day brings new situations that require quick decision-making and a calm approach.

During the weekends, Dorotka helps with check-ins, who is also in charge of social networks, advertising and graphics. She studies mass media communication and naturally connects the hotel's operations with the online world. Tomáško, as an IT implementer, regularly spends time directly at the reception desk to better understand the real needs of the operation and to be able to introduce technologies and artificial intelligence in a way that makes our work easier and not more complicated.

When the restaurant is full, the receptionist goes to help – make coffee, pour beer, take the goods. We don't play the game of "it's not my job". We all know about everything and we form one team. That's why Ardi from Indonesia feels good here, as he is part of the service and brings a smile to the team.

The kitchen – a heart that must beat precisely

If a hotel has a soul, the kitchen is its heart. Chef Vladko, together with Marcelka and other team members – Aďka and Putu (also from Indonesia) – take care of everything from ordering ingredients, preparing meals for à la carte, weddings, celebrations and corporate events, to hygiene and storage.

It is a physically and mentally demanding job. It requires precision, organization, and teamwork. To keep the resort functioning year-round, we created a boxed diet project during the pandemic. It is produced directly in the kitchen and packaged one floor below in the office space.

This segment is managed by daughter Viktória. She handles personnel, communication with customers, orders and shipping. She is assisted by Betka and Janko, who take care of packaging. Betka is also a professional waitress. The accuracy of the weight and visual appearance of the dishes is checked by Dona, who also prepares the table settings for weddings at Stodol Gréta.

Logistics, weddings and field movement

Weddings and events have so far been managed by Mimka, who is going on maternity leave, and I am taking over her agenda. Ivan works as a courier and maid in one – he is an honest and cheerful person who never falls asleep on the job and brings humor to the team. Peťo is in charge of food delivery, the fleet, and also helps with maintenance.

One organism to maintain

From a managerial and economic perspective, I work closely with my partner and brother Marek, who is extremely technically proficient, has his own business, and solves even the most demanding technical challenges with us. I see all employees as one big organism, and if you don't take care of the individual cells, the organism will start to falter.

That's why we hold meetings, teambuildings, communicate openly and try to make sure people know what they are doing and why they are doing it. And most importantly, that they enjoy their work. We try to be positive, smiling and human. Because our guests feel it. And that's why they like to come back to us.
