Welcome to our home. It's not just a polite phrase – it's an invitation to the world that we, as a family, have been building for decades. The Gréta Resort is not just a place to relax, but a living story about work, courage, traditions and the people who put their hearts into it. Allow me to guide you through this story through my eyes.
Roots in the mountains and a love of hospitality
Our story began in 1972, when my parents, Gréta and Anton, decided to connect their lives with the mountains and people. As cottagers in Roháče, in the heart of the Western Tatras, they lived a simple but immensely rich life. The mountains taught them humility, perseverance and respect for nature, while the hosts taught them that every person deserves attention, a smile and honest care.
It was in this environment that my brother and I grew up. Our childhood was not about luxury, but about values. About morning mountain views, about work that had meaning, and about the feeling that home is not a place, but people. These foundations later became the solid pillars of everything we do today at the Gréta Resort.
Return to Liptov and a great school of practice
The year 1992 was a turning point for our family. Our hearts drew us back to our native Liptov – a region with deep-rooted strength, traditions and hospitality. Together we started working at the Bobrovník Hotel, where we worked as a family for twelve years.
It was an intense school of life and business. We learned what daily responsibility, teamwork and long-term planning mean. We experienced successes, but also moments that tested us. However, this period confirmed for us that hospitality is not just a profession – it is a mission.
The courage to build something of your own
When the lease at the Bobrovník Hotel was successfully terminated after twelve years, we were faced with a big decision. Either we would continue on the same path, or we would take the courage and fulfill our dream of our own place. With the help of investors, a lot of work and faith in the strength of the family, the Gréta Resort was created.
The beginnings were humble, but all the more sincere. The main building and five cottages formed the foundation of the resort – and these are the cottages you can still find with us today. Each one carries a piece of history and memories of the early years, when we were sure of one thing: we want to create a place where guests will feel at home.
Gradually, our favorite addition to the resort was the Barn. A space for weddings, family celebrations, and corporate events, where the atmosphere is combined with emotions that people remember for a lifetime.
Why Greta?
The name of the resort is not accidental. It is named after our mother, Gréta, who was the soul of the entire business. She was an exceptional cook and pastry chef, a woman with a great sense of taste, people and details. Her recipes, approach and kindness are still part of our identity today.
Father Anton, on the other hand, was a strong pillar of the family. As a former pilot and mountaineer, he taught us discipline, responsibility, and that honest work and equal treatment of everyone are values that will never go out of fashion. The combination of mother and father – heart and mind – is the basis of the philosophy of the Gréta Resort.
The next generation takes over the baton
Today we are in a beautiful, yet responsible time, when we are involving the next generation in our family "gold". My daughter Viktória works as a manager and brings a modern perspective, system and energy to it. Marek's daughter Dorotka is in charge of marketing and ideas that connect tradition with the present.
Marek's wife Martina is a firm point of reception and gastronomy - places where the first impression and overall experience of guests are decided. And when needed, our youngest - Ninka, Michal or nephew Marek - will help. Everyone has their place, everyone contributes what they know best.
A family that sticks together
Family business is not always easy. Sometimes there are sparks between us, sometimes we have different opinions. But our common blood, values and goal always bring us together again. That goal is you – our guests.
We want you to feel comfortable with us, to enjoy honest food, to relax and take home memories that you will be happy to return to. Every smile, every compliment and every constructive comment moves us forward.
A look into the future
The Gréta Resort is constantly evolving. With respect for the past and the courage to look forward, we plan to complete the swimming pools and new wellness area to offer you even more space to relax and regenerate.
A family business could be compared to a well-tended garden. Grandparents planted the first trees and prepared the soil. Their children take care of these trees, expand the garden and protect it. The grandchildren are already reaping the fruits, bringing new ideas and energy. We are all united by common roots and the desire to make every guest feel welcome in this garden.
